Cock E.S.P. / Panicsville ‘Last Train to Cocksville’

I’m not really sure what to make of this collaborate release, Last Train to Cocksville (2003). Not being familiar with Cock E.S.P. or Panicsville, I was initially expecting derivative Whitehouse-style misogynanthropy, to coin a new word. After all, with song titles like “Good Clean Cock” and “I Can’t Get Her Off My Cock,” one could easily envision an irate William Bennett prophesizing over the monotonous drones of a dying Roland.

After some research though, this appears to be some kind of Monkees tribute album. Yes, I’m completely serious. Seeing as how I’m unqualified to review a Monkees tribute album, we’ll focus solely on the music elements. The noise here runs the gamut, from Japanese schizophrenia to power electronics to a certain cut-and-paste methodology, all infused with a healthy dose of Midwest humor. It is difficult to say whether or not this disc is indicative of either Cock E.S.P. or Panicsville, but it makes for an interesting listen.

As far as the Monkees influence goes, you’re on your own.
